Why do some cheeses melt and caramelize better than others? Researchers used high-tech cameras and special software to figure it out.

The Daily Show'sJon Stewart recently ranted against a culinary signature of Chicago: "Deep dish pizza is not only not better than New York pizza — it's not pizza," said Stewart, calling it "tomato soup in a bread bowl." The produce aisle may not be restocked at the Stop & Shop in Toms River, N.J., and other perishables may still be hard to come by. But rest assured, the local pizzeria is hopping. Geno D's served up more than 500 pies on its first day back in business on Wednesday.

A "large scale Canada-U.S. cheese smuggling operation" has been brought down, after an international investigation tracked criminals who were skirting import duties and Canada's higher cheese prices. The smugglers reportedly transported more than $200,000 worth of cheese.

Criminals and cops looking to grab a slice of some tasty action are smuggling American cheese into Canada, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. The American cheese costs far less than its Canadian competitors.

Pizzerias in Canada's Niagara Falls region say they've been offered cases of cheese smuggled from the U.S. In Canada, cheese costs three times as much as it does in the U.S. So drivers are paid a lot to drive contraband cheese across the border. CBC °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ reports Niagara police officers are alleged to be in on the scam.
